(The Hosting News) – Top web hosting provider 1&1 Internet leveraged a key Citrix platform when developing its public cloud offering. Today, Citrix proudly detailed why 1&1 Internet went with the company’s XenServer solution to create Dynamic Cloud Server, a server offering that allows companies to harness the power of 1&1’s infrastructure for their hosting needs.
The move holds a key distinction for Citrix. The company maintains that its XenServer solution now accounts for powering key cloud platforms for four of the largest hosting companies in the world. Other companies to previously run XenServer have included the likes of SoftLayer, GoDaddy, Zynga and Rackspace.
“XenServer will make it possible for the global hosting company to deliver granular control of server resources using a proven cloud-ready virtualization platform to meet customer price, performance and scalability requirements,” commented Citrix when discussing the issue in a press release.
Citrix’s solution allows companies to use virtual datacenter solutions with their hosting platforms, providing for integration, management and automation. Meanwhile, 1&1 Internet VP Michael Frenzel cited “an open source mindset for ongoing product enhancements” as a reason for going with Citrix’s solution.
1&1 Internet’s offerings include ecommerce, servers, e-mail and domain registration. The company’s MyWebsite solution has been prominently advertised via television commercials. The product allows businesses to simplify the website creation process.
