(The Hosting News) – Top web-powered services including Instragram and Vine faced outages late Sunday due to a purported issue occurring at one of Amazon’s data centers.
According to a BBC report, Amazon’s northern Virginia facility was the source of the incident.
“We know many of you are having trouble loading Instagram. We identified the issue and are working to fix it ASAP. Thanks for holding on,” noted Instagram through its Twitter feed.
The problems persisted for several hours, causing long load times and/or no service at all.
Finally, once things began to return to normalcy, Amazon indicated the issue was due to a “partial failure of a networking device.” No further details were revealed but we’d definitely expect a post-mortem report on this one.
It’s hardly the first time Amazon has faced such issues. In December of last year, problems with Amazon Web Services led to downtime for Netflix at the worst possible time: Christmas Eve.
Amazon Web Services has been utilized by a lot of other popular online services including Reddit, Pinterest and Quora.
