London, United Kingdom - (The Hosting News) - September 29, 2006 - Internet backbone company, Level 3 Communications, European Markets Division, has inked a new agreement with EWE TEL GmbH, to provide network services across Western Europe. Under the terms of the agreement, Level 3 will provide 10GigE LAN PHY wavelength service, a standard enhancement to the Level 3 intercity wavelength service.
The new service will connect EWE TEL's main Internet exchange points in Europe. EWE TEL GmbH is one of the largest regional carriers in Germany, providing a large share of telecommunications services in northern Germany. As a full service provider, EWE TEL has approximately 300,000 customers, more than 30,000 business customers, and offers services including mobile, private line, dark fiber and other network solutions.

Level 3 endeavors to enable customers to leverage cost-effective and familiar Ethernet technology to build and grow large IP backbones, with its 10GigE LAN PHY offering a dedicated Ethernet point-to-point service. The service is available across the majority of Level 3's fiber-based network in the United States and in Europe, including extensions to key metropolitan points of presence.
