News: Web Hosting, Grid-Based Private Servers, Offered by Layered Technologies
News

Frisco, Texas - (The Hosting News) - November 13, 2006 - Self-managed, dedicated server platforms and services firm, Layered Technologies, Inc., will integrate computing solutions company, 3Tera's AppLogic grid operating system, into its private servers and web hosting services.

According to the company, the grid-based solution will be utilized to provide Layered Technologies' customers with a new level of services such as quick and easy resource provisioning, instant high availability and on-demand scalability, and for the first time, they won't have to worry about how many, and what kinds of, servers they're running.

Todd Abrams, President and COO of Layered Technologies, Inc. explained, ''3Tera's grid technology is positioned to radically change today's Web hosting market and Layered Technologies is among the first hosting providers to leverage these benefits to offer private grid servers and new web hosting services. Using the AppLogic platform enables us to offer our customers new critical functionality such as rapid provisioning, snapshots, universal high availability and scalability for their online solutions in a cost-effective way.''

3Tera's AppLogic is designed as a true multi-purpose grid operating system designed to run any web application on the commodity servers hosting providers already have in place. AppLogic's ability to package web applications and the infrastructure required to deliver them into easy-to-manage entities allows numerous services to be offered from the same grid. This opens up a wealth of opportunities for hosting providers and their customers. Rather than adding physical hardware to introduce a new product or handle temporary traffic loads, hosting providers can now simply run the AppLogic platform on top of existing infrastructure to significantly streamline their own operations while providing their customers with efficient provisioning, snapshots, universal high availability and complete control of their applications. Customers are freed from the cost and complexity of owning and managing hardware infrastructure.

Vlad Miloushev, President and CEO of 3Tera, Inc. added, ''Layered Technologies can now offer, in addition to the dedicated server model, the new easy-to-manage grid infrastructure to provide affordable web hosting plans while achieving the ultimate in flexibility for hosting solutions. AppLogic eliminates the barrier between grid computing and Web applications so hosting providers like Layered Technologies can offer their customers an easy and cost-effective way to manage their own applications without ever having to worry about the infrastructure.''

Jeremy Suo-Anttila, CTO of Layered Technologies, Inc. offered, ''Deploying web applications on AppLogic-based private servers provides instant scalability and high availability to our customers. For example, grid disk failures become a non-issue as all the data volumes are constantly mirrored on multiple servers so the running application is never interrupted. Even the failure of a server becomes painless, as AppLogic will automatically provision replacement resources on the grid.''

According to AppLogic, it is the first and only grid operating system designed to run and scale existing transactional web applications. The system is based on scalable grid architecture, advanced virtualization technologies and 3Tera's ground-breaking disposable infrastructure. AppLogic converts existing commodity servers into scalable shared grids that are easy to manage. Disposable infrastructure packages applications and the infrastructure required to run them into self-contained and portable entities. As a result, AppLogic enables users to easily deploy existing Web applications on a grid, instantiate and scale them without modification, and without requiring a SAN or other shared storage. By completely separating software from the hardware infrastructure traditionally needed to run it, AppLogic is enabling the first true utility services to be offered.

3Tera, Inc. provides utility computing solutions designed to simplify the deployment, operation and scaling of online services. The company's AppLogic grid operating system was developed to allow web hosting providers to offer true utility computing that enables anyone with a browser and basic IT skills to operate dozens of servers, and hundreds of online applications, without owning and operating hardware infrastructure. 3Tera is a privately-held company headquartered in Aliso Viejo, California with R and D facilities in Silicon Valley, Israel and Eastern Europe.

Layered Technologies, Inc. is a provider of self-managed, dedicated server products and services. Through bundling hardware, software, bandwidth, and Tier 1 data centers, Layered Technologies serves clients in over 120 countries. Layered Technologies' goal is to provide solutions that allow enterprise customers and small and medium businesses to tap instant on-demand hosting and utility computing.
