(The Hosting News) – On Wednesday, hosting company Carpathia Hosting announced that it would work in partnership with colocation providers Equinix and Digital Realty Trust to launch its new data center facility in Dulles, Virginia.
Not far outside the Washington D.C. area, the data center itself will encompass 64 thousand square feet and will form a presence across from a current site operated by the hosting provider. Hosting for commercial industries, federal agencies and the healthcare industry is set to be featured at the new site.
The data center will be known as the IBX Vault. Discussing the matter in a press release, Carpathia Hosting CEO Peter Weber expressed excitement about working with the other companies on the data center project.
“With the new IBX Vault, our customers get access to an unparalleled combination in the industry; a data center built to Equinix’s rigorous standards as well as our industry-leading complex, compliant managed hosting and cloud services,” Weber also commented.
Features of the data center will include Equinix WAN services, tier 1 telecommunications carriers, fiber connection to other data centers and more. Meanwhile, Equinix Americas President Charles Meyers discussed strong demand for the D.C. area and said the move would “support the secure, compliant hosting requirements of our federal and commercial customers in that metro.”
Both Equinix and Carpathia plan shared responsibility for the operation of the site with Carpathia set to provide security and Equinix planning to manage the facility.
Among Carpathia Hosting’s solutions are cloud, managed hosting, data protection, security services and more. The company supports its services through data centers in U.S. locations including Los Angeles and Phoenix along with three sites located in Virginia.
The new data center announcement follows Carpathia Hosting’s revelations earlier this month that they were expanding their Virginia headquarters in addition to opening new offices in New York and California.
Most recently, Carpathia Hosting made news when it announced that it would not immediately reprovision servers from the Megaupload controversy. The company’s announcement arrived following a takedown of the file sharing site by U.S. authorities who accused Megaupload operators of profiting from pirated material. In late January, Carpathia announced a plan to work with the Electronic Frontier Foundation to assist former Megaupload users in their retrieval of legal files.
