(The Hosting News) – Hosting for the cloud may have just gotten a bit easier. Today, cloud solution provider OnApp announced the availability of new applications compatible with mobile devices. Specifically made to work on platforms including Android, the iPad, and the iPhone, the apps give users the ability to manage their cloud storage.
Commenting on the matter, OnApp CTO Roger Nolan stated, “A smartphone app is an important differentiator for cloud providers.”
“It’s a way for a cloud host to add value to its service, and of course it means end users and system administrators have instant access to their cloud, wherever they are. Fixing a problem, adding more CPU and RAM to cope with a spike in traffic, or spinning up a new VM can be done anywhere, he continued.
While specifically made for clouds launched using OnApp, downloading the software is free. It’s also the first time OnApp has ventured into the Android market. One of the main capabilities for the OnApp Android app includes allowing the user to “monitor CPU and bandwidth.”
Meanwhile, the iOS app (running on the iPhone and iPad) includes features such as virtual machine creation, cloud monitoring, backup scheduling, and more.
Besides all the techy features, the iOS app gives users some cool customization features. With an OnApp rebranding package, users can set customized icons, colors, and images. The app also allows users to set languages.
Just last month, OnApp made news by announcing a CDN platform(Content Delivery Network), which it launched at HostingCon 2011 in San Diego, California. The company specializes in software for the hosting industry.
