A startup responsible for the Linux container format, Docker has now been purchased by Tutum. Tutum is a company providing management for containerized applications. They also deploy these applications within the cloud infrastructure.
The two companies are very complimentary of each other with Tutum providing infrastructure management and Docker providing development and cloud services. Docker was built around open source technology and Tutum expects this acquisition to provide a new revenue stream.
Tutum already provides an integrated set of tools to help IT operations teams deploy applications. With the addition of Docker, they will be able to add to their offering making the company more valuable.
