(The Hosting News) – Codeanywhere, the cloud based code editor, announced today it has raised $600,000 in Series A investment capital from World Wide Web Hosting, LLC, the parent company of Site5 Web hosting.
The company, which rebooted from PHPanywhere in 2011, is aiming to be the Google Docs equivalent for developers, offering a Web-based code editor. The technology allows developers the ability to develop their Web sites and applications as they would on their desktop code editor, but from any browser. Code is backed up to the cloud in real-time.
With over 150,000 users, Codeanywhere is currently one of the biggest players in the cloud development space. Today’s investment from Site5 will allow Codeanywhere to continue focus on scalability, user acquisition, and the development of new features, including collaboration tools and native mobile apps.
“With this Investment, Codeanywhere we will continue to strive toward the vision that my co-founder and I had so many years ago. Our goal is to become the industry-standard in cloud development, and fundamentally change the way a generation of developers builds software,” said Ivan Burazin, co-founder of Codeanywhere.
Codeanywhere’s platform enables developers to write colorized, syntax-checked code from virtually any Web browser on virtually any device, including iOS, Android, Windows 8 – and yes, even Blackberry. It offers support for most popular web programming languages, and enables developers to easily collaborate in real-time.
“What excites us most about Codeanywhere is not just the important market need it strives to meet, but also the tremendous talent and cohesion of its core team. We view our investment today as an opportunity to accelerate the growth of a technology that will fundamentally shape the behavior of developers around the world,” said Ben Welch-Bolen, founder of Site5.
Codeanywhere offers both free and premium versions. The premium version is currently priced at $5 per month, and a new premium team version will be available soon.
