(The Hosting News) – Eccentric behavior, disguises, numerous girlfriends more than half his age and now a faked heart attack: The curious case of John McAfee took its latest turn this week as the antivirus pioneer was shipped to Miami after being denied political asylum in Guatemala.
In a report from CNN Thursday, the founder of McAfee, Inc. admitted his heart issues were simply a “ruse,” designed to keep authorities from sending him back to Belize where he’s wanted for questioning in the murder of a neighbor.
The software pioneer, also an American citizen, fled Belize earlier this month and crossed the border illegally despite not being regarded as a suspect in the mysterious death. He was, however, known to have a contentious relationship with neighbors who disliked noise problems caused by his pet dogs.
“I have absolutely nothing to do with the murder in Belize,” he stated Thursday, according to CNN. “This is not about a murder in Belize. This began on the 30th of April of last year when 42 armed soldiers stormed my property,” McAfee continued in the report.
McAfee believes Belize’s government is out to get him for shedding a light on corruption in the country. He also accused authorities of poisoning his dogs – a move that he says forced him to put the animals down with gunshots. Belize, meanwhile, has denied any vendetta against the software pioneer.
John McAfee settled in Belize following the company’s sale to Intel for $7.6 billion in 2010. The founder’s fortune, however, has dwindled and latest reports signal he’s left his remaining surplus of earnings behind in investments through Belize.
A report from The Daily Mail showed McAfee posing with fans upon his arrival at Miami’s Beacon Hotel. U.S. authorities, meanwhile, have no intention to take him into custody. For now, it appears McAfee’s escape was highly successful.
