(The Hosting News) – DDoS mitigation provider Prolexic last week released its latest Global DDoS Attack report – something that revealed a staggering increase in DDoS attack bandwidth for 2013’s second quarter.
“The average packet-per-second (pps) rate reached 47.4 Mpps and the average bandwidth reached 49.24 Gbps based on data collected in Q2 2013. These metrics represent increases of 1,655 percent and 925 percent respectively,” stated Prolexic .
The most used DDoS attacks were “infrastructure-directed” ones which accounted for 74.71% of all while “application layer attacks” encompassed the rest.
Overall, compared to the same time last year, DDoS attacks grew by 33%. The report, meanwhile, indicated that China continued to be the primary source for DDoS.
Aside from mitigation, Prolexic provides monitoring, network protection and anti-DDoS intelligence.
