(The Hosting News) – Data center operating giant Digital Realty Trust has been busy in the new year. On Wednesday, the company revealed that it had added data center properties in the U.S. states of California and Georgia.
The California data center located in San Francisco accounts for 155 thousand square feet while the Georgia facility located in Atlanta covers 334 thousand square feet.
As a data center leasing provider, Digital Realty has a variety of data centers worldwide in areas including the United States, Europe and Asia.
The transaction amount for the San Francisco property totaled $85 million while the location in Atlanta was set at $63 million.
Discussing the matter in a press release, Digital Realty Trust Chief Acquisitions Officer Scott Peterson stated, “These acquisitions continue our strategy of investing in institutional quality data center facilities at attractive, risk-adjusted returns for our shareholders.”
Peterson stated that the San Francisco facility is currently completely leased. However, he cited the possibility of expanding.
Concerning the Atlanta location, Peterson said, “The property in Atlanta adds a world-class facility with quality corporate customers to our global portfolio.”
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the company announced its new VP of Technical Operations. David Schirmacher will take the position, overseeing company data center duties including maintaining uptime.
Schirmacher previously served as Chief Strategy Officer at software firm FieldView Solutions.
Digital Realty Trust is also a new member of the Open Compute Project, an organization formed by Facebook with the idea of sharing data center designs publicly with the goal of making them more efficient and cost-effective.
The move was announced last month. By joining, Digital Realty Director of Engineering Kevin Dalton stated that the company intends to make the Open Compute Project’s “power and cooling option available” within some of the company’s facilities.
