(The Hosting News) – Data center solution provider Digital Realty Trust is venturing into the land down under. For $10.7 million, the company has announced that it has acquired land in Sydney, Australia for data center development.
It is the second time that Digital Realty Trust has ventured into the Asia-Pacific area (with its other facility being in Singapore). With over ninety sites, the company also has a presence in various locations throughout North America and Europe.
As a company, Digital Realty Trust operates by offering data center solutions through its facilities to tenants.
Commenting on the matter in a press release, Digital Realty Trust CEO Michael F. Foust stated, “The Sydney market is characterized by a robust business environment, yet has a limited supply of data centre space available to meet customer demand for highly reliable, flexible and secure facilities.”
With the move, the company is hoping to provide for IT companies who are considering expansion in the area.
Earlier this year in April, Digital Realty Trust announced strong first quarter figures, signaling strong leasing from the company.
It’s not the only news made recently concerning both data centers and Australia. Just earlier this month, reports surfaced indicating that Amazon Web Services is planning an Australian expansion. Meanwhile, data center company Equinix already has data centers located within the area.
