(The Hosting News) – DomainTools, the leader in domain name research and monitoring, today announced a delivered product strategy that focused on a mobile-optimized DomainTools.com, including apps for both Androidand iPhone operating systems. DomainTools’ primary goals for optimizing users’ mobile experience and mobile applications include improving page load speed, visual presentation, and overall user engagement. Approximately 10% of DomainTools’ 30 million monthly visits are from mobile devices.
DomainTools released its newest mobile Whois experience last month, which introduced a mobile-optimized layout that provides nearly all the functionality and content of the standard DomainTools site. This mobile-optimized experience produced a 40% increase in overall mobile traffic in just 30 days. Comparing website metrics before and after the Whois mobile improvements, DomainTools saw a significant lift in engagement from DomainTools members: an 84% increase in number of pages per visitor and a 214% increase in time spent on the site. This indicates that members are getting more of what they want out of their mobile experience.
The most recent culmination of DomainTools’ mobile strategy is the extension to the Android platform with a new app that provides Whois Lookups on domain names together with website screenshots, key registration dates, and valuable domain profile stats. Like the web-based Whois lookup product, the DomainTools app combines data from multiple sources into a single view to give a complete perspective of a domain’s ownership and history. The free Android app is now available in the Google Play store, satisfying the growing needs of a considerable number of of DomainTools.com visitors who use Android devices.
In parallel with the Android launch, DomainTools also improved the user experience for iphone users by making significant usability improvements to the iphone app that was previously introduced in July of 2010.
“Customers that rely on DomainTools data often are in the business of doing time-sensitive research and making real-time decisions. We need to support our users, both individual and corporate, who often operate untethered from their desktops or laptops. I’m pleased with our initial efforts in this area and expect our investment to be commensurate with the rapid growth of mobile markets worldwide,” says Tim Chen, CEO, DomainTools.
