(The Hosting News) – Social networking giant Facebook has been caught trying to spread ill will towards Google. USA Today broke the initial story earlier this week but had not named Facebook as the PR firm’s client.
The Daily Beast later confirmed that Facebook had hired PR firm Burson-Marsteller to release stories dealing with privacy concerns for Google’s popular email service, Gmail.
Facebook had used the firm to reach large media outlets with the concerns. It’s not the first time that the two web giants have done battle. Just last fall, the two sparred over which company willingly shares more user data.
Upon the news indicating that Facebook was behind the matter, Burson-Marsteller identified the social networking giant as their client.
According the PR firm, Facebook’s identity was not initially revealed as Burson-Marsteller claimed Facebook just wanted to bring already available public knowledge to further light for independent analysis by the public.
Other reports indicate that Facebook may be concerned with how Google uses Facebook data. Some analysts also believe that more battles between the two are unavoidable. Both Facebook and Google compete over online advertising.
