(The Hosting News) – Thousands of Italian-based internet sites were brought down after a fire erupted at one of Italy’s largest server providers on Friday.
The incident caused both the primary and backup power to shut off at Aruba’s primary serer farm in Arezzo, Italy. The fire last nearly three hours as firefighters worked to put it out.
Despite the interruption in service, Aruba says that no stored data was harmed during the blaze. Sites are slowly but surely coming back online after some 11 hours of downtime.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined.
Meanwhile, consumer advocacy group Codacons is exploring a class-action suit for the incident that delayed companies from accessing emails and other vital information.
With over one million actively hosted sites, Aruba’s is a top provider in Italy, the Czech Republic, and in the Slovak Republic.
