(The Hosting News) – Cloud provider Amazon Web Services recently gained a key employee to oversee the company’s EC2 cloud platform. On Wednesday, Geekwire.com reported that former Microsoft Senior Director for Office and Office 365 Tom Rizzo had changed his title via LinkedIn.
At Microsoft, Rizzo served in several capacities since initially joining the company in 1996. Such spots included operating as Group Product Manager for Microsoft Exchange Server for over 5 years. Rizzo also worked on the company’s SQL Server and Office 365 projects.
Amazon Web Services has been gaining significantly in popularity among developers relying on its cloud solutions. Earlier this month, the company announced that its CloudFront platform had reached 32 global points of presence.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has since acknowledged Rizzo’s departure from the company. “Tom Rizzo brought a considerable amount of energy and passion to the teams he’s been a part of during his seventeen year career at Microsoft. We wish Tom the very best in his future endeavors and thank him for the contributions he’s made to our business,” commented a representative for Microsoft, according to the geekwire.com report.
The company’s EC2 service (also referred to as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud) was recently in the news when it saw downtime due to what the company blamed on a “cable fault.”
