(The Hosting News) – Google’s Palestinian homepage found itself in the path of attackers recently.
The company’s web presence for the geographic region was defaced after someone purportedly objected to the tech giant’s labeling of Israeli and Palestinian borders through Google Maps.
“uncle google we say hi from Palestine to remember you that the country in google map not called Israel. Its called Palestine,” read the defaced message.
The hackers also suggested the idea of changing the country title from Israel to read Palestine in Google Maps, noting “it would be revolution.”
Meanwhile, Google followed up by suggesting the website wasn’t hacked after all, telling the Washington Post, “Some users visiting google.ps have been getting redirected to a different website; Google services for the google.ps domain were not hacked. We’re in contact with the organization responsible for managing this domain name so we can help resolve the problem.”
The incident follows Google’s switch from labeling its Palestinian homepage “Palestinian Territories” to simply “Palestine” – something that occurred in May.
