(The Hosting News) – Indian business websites are soon expected to get a boost thanks to a new agreement between internet tech giant Google & popular Houston-based web hosting provider HostGator.
With the deal, the two companies will provide Indian small to medium sized businesses with domain registration (with the .in TLD) and hosting for an entire year. And the best thing about it? It’s free.
So why provide such a great deal in India? According to a recent report by IDG News covering the story, around 8 million small to medium sized businesses are in the country. However, only a relatively small amount of those businesses have websites (In fact, IDG News reported the number to be around 400 thousand.)
On their official website (called India Get Your Business Online) the project states, “Across India, more and more people are connecting with local businesses online. Make sure they connect with yours with a free professional website. Help customers find you easily and be where they are. It’s easy. Really fast. And absolutely free. So get your business online.”
So is profit involved for the participating companies? Perhaps in time.
When a member’s hosting expires after the initial year of free hosting, the project will offer a discounted price to continue hosting provided by HostGator.
Meanwhile, there are other partners involved besides just HostGator and Google. Indian companies participating include ICICI Bank and the Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises.
As a country, India represents a gigantic share of the world’s population accessing the internet. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that online access is completely widespread throughout the country. In a recent report on the matter, Reuters reported that less than a tenth on the nation has online access.
So the idea appears to be a good, solid plan that seeks to boost internet visibility for companies in a market that could definitely use it. To learn more about India Get Your Business Online, visit: http://www.indiagetonline.in/)
