(The Hosting News) – According to the White House, many web sites of federal agencies could shut down as soon as tonight in the instance of a government shutdown. If a user tries to go to one of the shutdown sites, the user will be prompted with a statement detailing the reason for the site’s non-function.
However, some federal sites should remain open. Sites that deal with tax payments, such as the IRS will stay online. Also, agencies that still have enough money to run from the previous budget are also expected to remain open.
Funding from the current budget only runs until 12 a.m. on Saturday. The last government shutdown occurred in 1996. Due to the early stages of the internet then, instances of federal website shutdowns were a non-issue.
