GreenGeeks launches new eco-friendly initiative
(The Hosting News) – GreenGeeks announced today that it has partnered with C02NeutralWebSite.com for their 2010 Earth Day commitment. C02NeutralWebSite.com works with large eco friendly web sites in an effort to force businesses in Europe to become more efficient and reduce their carbon footprint.
In the European Union (EU) some 12,000 carbon emitting facilities have been targeted to either offset their carbon emissions with carbon credit equivalents or they are forced to modify their operations to lower their carbon emissions. The EU has capped the allowable carbon credits these 12,000 business may purchase and allows businesses outside of the 12,000 targeted businesses to purchase these credits thus lowering the total number available to these carbon polluting businesses.
“We are very excited by this new initiative” Says Trey Gardner CEO of GreenGeeks. “Since inception our mission has been to be the most eco-friendly web host around and to force others within our industry to go green. This new initiative embraces and expands our original mission by allowing us to branch out our efforts and to start to target different industries. This commitment also works well with our sponsorship of the 40th Earth Day anniversary, Fight For Air climb with the American Lung Association as both the climb and the C02NeutralWebSite.com partnership work to bring us cleaner air.”
CO2NeutralWebsite.com allows large online businesses to offset their bandwidth traffic by purchasing the EU carbon credits. CO2NeutralWebsite.com is audited by Deloitte and allows web sites to buy the credits in buckets of traffic. GreenGeeks LLC commitment is for traffic between 50,000 – 100,000 visitors per month.
“We are very proud on the climate impact we are doing together with GreenGeeks and other 1,000 plus participating companies globally” said Morton Nielsen, CO2NeutralWebsite.com “Companies are joining because it is an easy way to contribute – while strengthening the company from a business perspective”, added Nielsen.
