(The Hosting News) – Web host Distribute.IT, which was recently hacked has been acquired by NetRegistry, another Australian domain provider.
Hackers breached Distribute.IT on June 11, erasing 4,800 of its hosted sites.
From now on, NetRegistry will be assisting Distribute.IT customers during the recovery process.
Distribute.IT admitted that it had lost the sites after a security breach in which hackers accessed and deleted information, including backups and snapshots on four of the hosting company’s servers.
The web hosting stated that the data was likely unrecoverable, but had said it would continue to salvage data.
In a press release on the matter, NetRegistry CEO Larry Bloch stated, “We all have a great deal of sympathy and concern for the consequences to Distribute.IT staff, management and customers of this unfortunate incident. It is important to us that all Distribute.IT customers know the extent of effort to which Distribute IT have gone to rectify the damage. Distribute.IT had a very solid reputation – that comes from doing a good job for a long time.”
“I want to remind customers of that excellence and ask for their patience and support as we work through the requirements to return services to all customers as rapidly as possible,” continued Bloch.
Meanwhile, technicians from NetRegistry have already arrived at Distribute.IT to assist with the recovery.
NetRegistry is also working to provide customers with a free hosting service while it sorts out all the billing information related to the acquisition.
