India Threatens to Block Wireless Services for Blackberry

(The Hosting News) – The Indian government has recently informed Research In Motion, maker of Blackberry, that if it fails to allow access to users’ private wireless data by August 31, they will block all email and messaging services. This makes India the latest country threatening to ban the mobile provider.

According to reports, the government recently sent letters to Indian wireless providers instructing them to ensure Blackberry services are shut off on August 31.

The fight between RIM and India, along with many other governments throughout the world, is over the growing concerns that RIM’s security design prevents security officials from monitoring wireless communications by criminals and terrorists.

However, sources say that RIM is working with Indian officials to resolve the issue.
