(The Hosting News) – Chip giant Intel on Tuesday unveiled its latest SSD technology, showcasing a Data Center S3500 Series component geared towards the cloud and web hosting markets.
Intel is hoping the SSD is received as an “ideal replacement for traditional hard disk drives.”
“The Intel SSD DC S3500 Series breaks through barriers – like the need for high throughput/low latency storage with a low total cost of ownership – to deliver the storage solution that meets the needs of the cloud, and its demand for storage, which has exploded in recent years,” stated Intel’s Rob Crooke via a press release.
Highlights of the product include high performance, low read latencies, tight distribution with 75 thousand input/output per second and more.
The new SSDs will feature between 80 and 800GB options along with 1.8 and 2.5 inch form factors, Intel noted.
The company was expected to exhibit the technology at the ongoing Cloud Computing Expo, set conclude today in New York.
