(The Hosting News) – On Tuesday, Microsoft board member, John Thompson, wrote a short blog post updating users on the search for the next chief executive.
“We identified over 100 possible candidates, talked with several dozen, and then focused our energy intensely on a group of about 20 individuals, all extremely impressive in their own right. As you would expect, as this group has narrowed, we’ve done deeper research and investigation, including with the full Board. We’re moving ahead well, and I expect we’ll complete our work in the early part of 2014,” wrote Thompson.
At a shareholder meeting last month, Chairman, Bill Gates, noted that running Microsoft is a “complex role to fill, involving a complex business model and the ability to lead a highly technical organization and work with top technical talent.”
Candidates considered for the position have included Ford CEO Alan Mulally, Microsoft executive Satya Nadella, and Former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop.
In August, Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s CEO since 2000, announced his retirement by stating he would retire within 12 months.
