Did you know, Microsoft uses botnets to protect their customers? Many have said it takes a thief to catch a thief and Microsoft has put that into practice.
Tim Rains, chief security advisor for Microsoft’s Worldwide Cybersecurity & Data Protection team, stated that Microsoft now controls botnets and uses them as a part of their security strategy.
Part of the reason Microsoft started taking down botnets was the way they operate. They try to get consumers to buy counterfeit Microsoft software and they also attack consumers.
Instead of using the botnets as thieves would (to host malware, send spam messages or deploy DDoS attacks? Microsoft uses them to figure out which systems are infected.
