(The Hosting News) – Today is the day that many Microsoft fans have been waiting for, the unveiling of Windows 9 at the company’s press event in San Fransisco.
Earlier this month the tech giant sent out invitations to the press inviting them to join to “hear what’s next for Windows and the enterprise.”
According to BGR, the new operating system, dubbed Threshold, will be available as a free update to Windows 8 users. Indonesian online news site Detik reported that Microsoft’s president of its Indonesia division, Andreas Diantoro, reportedly confirmed the announcement.
The OS is said to feature the return of the Start menu, Metro apps that can be ran in a window, a Notification Center, virtual desktop features, the removal of the Charms bar, new cloud integration, the integration of Microsoft’s digital voice assistant Cortana, and various UI changes.
Windows 9 is expected to be available to the general public sometime in 2015, with many predicting it will launch in April.
