(The Hosting News) – Microsoft unveiled its latest version of Office on Monday, introducing a number of new features to the popular platform that make it especially suited for the company’s upcoming release of Windows 8.
The new office is currently available in a customer preview format available for download via Microsoft.com.
“The new, modern Office will deliver unparalleled productivity and flexibility for both consumers and business customers. It is a cloud service and will fully light-up when paired with Windows 8,” commented Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer in a press release.
A key feature of the new Office allows for the ability to save documents to cloud platform SkyDrive by default, allowing for easy cross-device syncing. Microsoft also took the step of integrating its recently purchased social network Yammer into the new offering.
Another feature is subscription-based, providing Office access via other computer systems through applications.
Other highlights include new reading and markup capabilities, digital note-taking, Skype integration and more. Meanwhile, the product is set to become available in three options: A home Premium edition, a Small Business Premium Edition and a ProPlus edition.
Office has been notable for including a bundled package of software featuring programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Microsoft will roll out Windows 8 sometime this fall. The upcoming OS features a slick-metro style especially suited for performance on tablet devices.
