(The Hosting News) – New server processors are ready to take over the market. Just yesterday, tech company AMD unveiled its processor series known as Opteron 6200 and 4200.
With the launch, AMD focused on three areas including higher business performance, virtualized scalability, and cloud efficiency.
Concerning the matter in a company press release, Paul Struhsaker of AMD Commercial Business discussed how more are relying on cloud, stating, “The wait for the most anticipated new product and architecture for servers is over.
“Leading OEMs are now offering cloud, enterprise and HPC customers a full suite of solutions based on the industry’s most comprehensive server processor portfolio, the new AMD Opteron family of processors which deliver an inspired balance of performance, scalability and efficiency,” Stuhsaker went on to say.
The new processors happen to be the company’s first of their type since around 2003 and are based on the company’s “Bulldozer” design for data centers.
Meanwhile, it hasn’t taken tech manufacturers long to respond. Around the same time of AMD’s unveiling, Hewlett Packard (HP) announced new data center servers featuring AMD’s Opteron 6200 release.
HP says its new ProLiant G7 servers powered by the AMD processors provide for an improved performance, scalability, and efficiency for data center facilities.
Aside from HP, other companies could be making use of the new server processors. According to AMD, such companies include DELL, IBM, and others which are expected to release new systems in the near future.
AMD’s unveiling followed a company restructuring announced earlier this month. For more information on the company’s new processors, visit: http://www.amd.com/us/press-releases/Pages/new-amd-opteron-processor-2011nov14.aspx
