directNIC.com to Start Registering Second Level Domain Names this
Month
Intercosmos Media Group, Inc. will add the expanded .name domain extension
to its directNIC.com line-up, starting Jan. 14.
(PRWEB) January 1 2003–It’s all in the name, and that’s why Intercosmos
Media Group, Inc. will soon add the expanded .name domain extension to its
directNIC.com line-up.
Starting January 14, people will be free to register any available name or word
combination ending in .name.
Previously, the .name Internet domain extension was limited predominantly to
people’s first and last names and consequently required a creative, though
unorthodox, use of third level domain name extensions.
“The process will be the same as .com and .net domains very soon. People will
be able to register their name or business name, or about anything else, with a
.name,†Intercosmos C.E.O. Sigmund Solares, J.D., M.B.A. said. “This will
put .name in an excellent position to become one of the most popular domain
extensions world-wide.â€ÂÂ
The new .name domains should be available, barring any .name registry delays,
beginning around 11:30 a.m. EST, Jan. 14.
“Due to the popularity of the more flexible .name extension, we encourage
corporations to act quickly to protect their trademarks and namesake online,â€ÂÂ
Solares said. “But people will also want to register their first and last
names in the new system, such as jim.name.
“This has been a long time in the works, and we’re glad to be able to offer
this groundbreaking new service,†he said.
Intercosmos Media Group, Inc. , creators of directNIC.com, is an ICANN
