Baltimore, Maryland – (The Hosting News) – November 7, 2006 – Carrier-neutral data center facility, Baltimore Technology Park (BTP), has hired HITT Contracting Inc., as General Contractor for its $3 million build-out of additional space at its data center in Baltimore.
The 11,000 square foot build-out of BTP will create capacity for an additional 250 server cabinets and more space for cages and suites, and is scheduled to begin construction in November. Six thousand square feet will consist of raised flooring available for colocation, with the remaining 5,000 square feet designed for employee and client workspace, kitchen, break and conference rooms.
A family business founded in 1937, Fairfax, Virginia-based HITT Contracting has grown to rank among the top 100 General Contractors in the world. The company has offices in five cities – including Baltimore – and is involved in projects in more than 40 states. HITT’s clients include T. Rowe Price, Booz Allen Hamilton, Morgan Stanley and Citibank.
Clark De Franceaux, Senior Vice President of HITT Contracting Inc. commented, ”HITT is honored to be chosen by Baltimore Technology Park, an organization that shares the same commitment to excellence and integrity as we do. We look forward to leading the build-out of BTP’s data center and to working with BTP on future projects.”
Shelley Seibert, Chief Operating Officer for BTP added, ”We considered several contractors for this phase of the data center build-out and selected HITT due to its expertise, experience, and reputation for completing projects on time, on budget, and to their clients’ satisfaction. It’s important to us to have the right partner for our build-out, and we are confident that HITT will do a great job.”
BTP’s expansion will boast a fully modern power design replete with state-of-the-art, highly efficient, mechanical and electrical systems delivering redundant power, and HVAC cooling systems. A second generator will be added to provide seamless continuation of power in the event of an outage. BTP will also unveil Baltimore’s first manned Network Operations Center, offering customers a facility staffed 24×7 on-site by certified Systems Administrators, who will be available to assist clients with technical support issues.
Security at BTP will be enhanced via the addition of several new security cameras, and the construction of a secure, gated parking area. Accessible by card swipe only, the parking area will afford clients safe access to BTP at any hour and be monitored via video camera by on-site BTP staff. During the build-out, shared tenant spaces will be developed to provide clients with workspace and private offices, available on-demand or for leasing. And finally, by request, BTP will build specialized caging and customized private suites with wall thicknesses to meet client specifications, which is especially attractive to financial service, defense and government-related firms.
In addition to safeguarding the data and operations of the region’s businesses, BTP’s location in a Focus Area of an Enterprise Zone allows it to offer customers significant tax incentives, including a ten-year, 80% credit against local personal property taxes. Companies also receive the maximum degree of choice and flexibility in choosing their bandwidth provider, because unlike many other colocation options, BTP is a carrier-neutral facility.
BTP is a new 30,000-square-foot, purpose-built facility that aims to provide the highest level of security and redundancy for businesses of all types and sizes who require reliable data center services. BTP’s corporate headquarters are located at 10 East Baltimore Street, Suite 1000, Baltimore, Maryland 21202.
