News: Dedicated Web Hosting Solutions Provider, SoftLayer, Upgrades to API 3.0
News
Dallas, Texas - (The Hosting News) - March 3, 2008 - On-demand, dedicated web hosting solutions firm, SoftLayer, has debuted the launch of its Application Protocol Interface (API) 3.0, an enhanced version of the first open source API.

API 3.0 is designed to provide system-to-system access to the over 100 backend functions also available through SoftLayer’s proprietary, industry-leading Customer Portal. It can securely connect any system regardless of device or location - even mobile devices such as a RIM Blackberry or Apple iPhone - via SoftLayer's innovative ''network-within-a-network'' private network topology.

Its improvements over the previous generation include: Highly-integrated, object-oriented approach; Greater .NET, Java, and Ruby on Rails compatibility; and Deeper integration with SoftLayer's core Portal SOA design.

Nathan Day, Chief Technology Officer for SoftLayer noted, ''SoftLayer is committed to giving customers more access and power. And that’s exactly what the API is all about. By directly integrating their systems with the SoftLayer infrastructure, customers have seamless control of their Hardware, Applications, and Services. They can eliminate layers of management systems and radically simplify their operations.''

As with SoftLayer's earlier API versions, API 3.0 continues to be capable of using both SOAP and XML-RPC interfaces and, as an open, standards-based platform, can fully integrate with any thirdparty or custom application.

Mr. Day added, ''It really leverages the open-source advantage. Since releasing the first open API last summer, we've been overwhelmed by the customer and development network response. They have generated a lot of ideas and created countless custom control panels and client-side applications. We've incorporated their feedback into our roadmap and created a new version that will continue to fuel use and development.''

SoftLayer API 3.0 is available at no cost to all SoftLayer customers. Anyone with a connection to the private network, either directly connected through the SoftLayer server or logged in remotely through a VPN, may use API-based applications. About SoftLayer Technologies Headquartered in Plano, Texas, SoftLayer delivers next-generation web hosting and on-demand datacenter services on a global basis from facilities located in Dallas, TX and Seattle, WA.

Located in the INFOMART in Dallas, Texas, SoftLayer was formed in June 2005 by a team of industry executives seeking to deliver low cost next generation on-demand hosting services for the small to medium enterprise (SME). Utilizing proprietary software, coupled with the industry's first network-within-a-network topology, the company delivers the power and control to securely manage IT environments while providing comprehensive scalability.
