Winston-Salem, North Carolina – (The Hosting News) – November 22, 2005 – Dynamic hosting infrastructure provider, SolidSpace LLC, has announced the immediate availability of a new
podcast hosting service for radio stations throughout the country.
SolidSpace debuted its podcasting capability in a partnership with WSMW-FM in Greensboro, N.C., an adult contemporary music station owned by radio network giant Entercom Communications Corp.
WSMW, also known by the name ”98-7 Simon,” has been posting podcasts from its popular weekday morning drive-time program ”The Wicker Show” since late summer. It posts as many as four to five segments a day. The segments range in time from under a minute to 10 minutes. Topics include comic parodies by host Jeff Wicker, interaction with listeners and amusing man-on-the-street stunts.
WSMW staff packages up the content and forwards it through links to SolidSpace, which hosts the content in its state-of-the-art data center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Jim Capps, President of SolidSpace LLC explained, ”The software-as-a-service format isn’t just the wave of the future – it’s here, and podcast hosting is just a natural extension of the benefits thousands of other corporate users are leveraging worldwide. Our podcast hosting service gives radio stations the ability to do what they do best – create content that drives listenership and advertising dollars – and leaves the back-end processing to us.”
WSMW Program Director Michael Bryan commented on the new service, ”Podcasting was just another opportunity for us to interact with our audience. If they missed something unusual that happened in the show, they can go back and check it out on our web site. Some other radio stations run the best snippets of the week on the weekend, but on our site listeners don’t have to wait that long. It’s an on-demand world, and we’re giving them what they’re demanding.”
Mr. Bryan said the SolidSpace service’s ease of use enabled WSMW staff to set up the podcast links in a matter of hours.
”It was quick and effortless,” Mr. Bryan said. ”We established a partnership early on, and it has worked out very well for both sides.”
