Englewood, Colorado – (The Hosting News) – September 13, 2005 – Managed hosting solutions provider, Verio, has
announced that it is donating technology services to assist victims of Hurricane
Katrina who need temporary housing. Verio will be hosting the KatrinaHousing.org
web site, which is designed to centralize and organize volunteer housing efforts
for survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

The site, created by MyTechSupport web design firm, invites all those interested in donating housing to log onto href="http://www.katrinahousing.org" target=_blank>www.katrinahousing.org, and post offers of rooms, vacant apartments, houses or other housing options that they are willing to donate to victims of Hurricane Katrina. Residents left homeless by the hurricane can access the site for a list of available housing options, and shelter operators are encouraged to hand out hard copies of the printable lists to victims.

Active since September 1, KatrinaHousing.org has been accessed by about 20,000 Internet users per day, delivering more that 20 gigabytes of traffic in the few days since the site launched. More than 138,000 offers of free housing have been posted to the site, and nearly 4,100 Katrina survivors to date have been placed into temporary housing, with that number increasingly daily.

Paul Wilson, Director of KatrinaHousing.org’s operations stated, “KatrinaHousing.org saw a need to coordinate the placement of Hurricane Katrina survivors into suitable, temporary housing, and quickly realized that the Internet was the most efficient tool in achieving this. We are thrilled that we are able to help America in this way and are grateful that companies such as Verio are assisting with our efforts.”
