New York, New York – (The Hosting News) – January 12, 2007 – According to a recent survey, there has been swift uptake of SQL Server 2005, since its release in November 2005, with 70% of the 267 survey respondents indicating that they are running the new database platform.
Conducted by Unisphere Research, and in partnership with the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS), “SQL Server and Microsoft Technologies Reach Across the Enterprise,” revealed that 42% plan to implement new instances of SQL Server 2005 within the next 12 months, many of which will be for applications they are migrating over from previous versions of the database.
As a result of its rapid adoption, leading database automation provider, GridApp Systems, Inc. is experiencing a significant increase in demand for its solutions that provide powerful control over SQL Server sprawl and heterogeneous next-generation database infrastructures. With the growing number of database instances being put into production and 77% of the largest organizations in the survey (10,000 employees or more) running more than 60 instances of SQL Server, the challenge of managing time- intensive tasks such as consolidation, migration, standardization and policy enforcement becomes much greater. Traditionally, these tasks have been handled manually, exposing organizations to misconfigurations, and significant compliance and security risks.
GridApp Systems’ database automation solutions enable organizations running SQL Server to turn the manual and chaotic process of SQL Server administration into a straightforward activity, where policies and standards can be automatically enforced and audited. GridApp’s Clarity database automation software simplifies the administration and management of SQL Server infrastructures — including standardization and policy enforcement – and eases the migration to SQL Server 2005.
Matthew Zito, Chief Scientist of GridApp Systems offered, “While the new breed of databases, such as SQL Server, are easier to deploy, it has also sparked standardization challenges for the DBA as each new database must be provisioned, configured, patched and audited in compliance with best practices and company policies. Database automation is a critical technology for any company deploying SQL Server 2005 at scale. Only by keeping all database servers under unified management can your organization ensure 100 percent compliance with standards and polices, and prevent the newer, more complex features of SQL Server 2005 from creating serious security problems.”
Unisphere Research conducted the survey in cooperation with GoldenGate Software for the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS), the leading association of Microsoft SQL Server technology and database professionals, to gauge the levels of adoption, planning, and platforms, from databases to operating systems, within enterprises.
