International Carrier Sales & Solutions (ICSS), the carriers’ carrier division of T-Systems, and Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, today announced that T-Systems has increased its network reach by acquiring a presence in four additional Equinix Internet Business Exchange™ (IBX®) centers in the United States. This agreement will allow T-Systems to have direct access to almost 200 network providers and expand its peering footprint significantly.
“This expansion allows T-Systems to gain access to the large customer base that is colocated in Equinix’s hubs, increasing our flexibility for interconnection with our customers, and this significantly expands our peering footprint with the major US providers,†explains Kevin Mulholland, senior vice president for the Americas, T-Systems, ICSS. Already present in Equinix’s Washington, D.C. center, T-Systems has chosen to expand into four additional Equinix facilities located in the Chicago, Los Angeles, Silicon Valley and Dallas areas.
Through this expanded deployment within Equinix centers throughout the U.S., T-Systems will be able to offer its Layer 2 transport solutions to additional carriers across the globe. European carriers will be able to connect via T-Systems new MPLS based Ethernet service at the IBX centers to set up their own peering connections with all of the major networks available at Equinix. Via the same connections, ISPs operating within Equinix’s centers will be able to reach major European Internet Exchange points through T-Systems.
“The expansion of T-Systems operations to five of our IBX centers in the U.S. supports Equinix’s mission of providing core Internet hubs where the networks of the world come together to exchange traffic,†said Peter Van Camp, CEO of Equinix. “T-Systems can leverage this to buy and sell services from aggregated carriers, ISPs and other network service providers.“
