World’s Largest Privately Held Web Hosting Company to Save 15% By Avoiding Local Loop Connections
AboveNet, Inc., a leading global provider of private, secure, high-capacity optical infrastructure and services in the metropolitan area, announced today that it signed a 2-year, multi-million dollar contract with Everyone’s Internet(TM) (EV1), the world’s largest provider of dedicated server web hosting, to provide its Metro IP(TM) service to two EV1 data centers in Houston, Texas.
AboveNet will use multiple redundant Metropolitan Gigabit-Ethernet connections to enable high-speed bandwidth from its major point-of-presence in Houston to both EV1 datacenters. The contract is expected to generate 15% in savings because EV1 will be able to completely circumvent the traditional carrier network and have immediate access to AboveNet’s tier one global IP network.
“EV1 manages over 20,000 web servers, hosts over 1 million unique web sites and captures nearly 2% of all the Internet traffic in the United States,” said Robert Marsh, EV1’s Head Surfer and CEO. “Our customers need a high-bandwidth, highly scalable and reliable network that can cope with the demand on their sites. AboveNet’s Metro IP service not only addresses that need, but the connection fits seamlessly with the technology we already have and gives us room to grow.”
“EV1 operates in one of the most competitive markets related to the Internet industry and it absolutely depends on excellent network connections to offer differentiated services,” said Bill LaPerch, President and Chief Executive Officer of AboveNet. “We are pleased to have been selected to fill this crucial role in advancing its business.”
AboveNet’s Meto IP, formerly known as Metro Gig-E, combines AboveNet’s valuable metropolitan fiber optic network with its top-rated Internet backbone, creating a high-capacity, cost-effective solution that is unmatched in the industry. AboveNet’s Metro IP solution is designed to seamlessly absorb usage bursts without latency to give customers the capability to meet high-bandwidth demands for mission critical, content-intensive and streaming media applications.
