NetMart (www.netmart.com), a provider of web hosting services based in Florida, announced that it will mark its 10-year anniversary next month. The company was founded ten years ago by three recently graduated university students with just $1000 of start-up capital. The company’s founders started their business by connecting an ISDN modem to a desktop computer in the basement office of their parents’ home on December 1, 1994. After three years of continuous growth the company moved to new offices and a new data center, financed by the profit made by the company.
Norman Goldberg, a founding partner of NetMart, said that when one thought of it, it was a really crazy idea to try and run a business out of a basement office with no money to speak of. He noted that that for the company’s founders it was a shot in the dark. Goldberg said that the founders had no money and built the business on simple word of mouth. He added that within three months the company was turning a profit and ten years later it has not missed a beat.
