In Spain, U.S. affiliates will join their English, French and German counterparts to meet crew members of the United Internet Team Germany. This is Germany’s first entrance in the race.

According to the company, after 156 years, the world’s oldest yachting racing will take place in Europe for the first time ever. In the 2007 summer, twelve international sailing syndicates will battle for the 32nd America’s Cup which was won by Switzerland in 2003. One affiliate will be chosen as the ”18th man” and will be able to sit on the 1 and 1 boat during this qualifying race. Racing tradition states that every competing boat must carry 100 kilograms (220 lbs.) or an 18th man that is not part of the crew. According to the company, this is the most prestigious affiliate prize in the industry and a once in a lifetime opportunity.
