News: Colocation, VoIP Firm, Level 3 Executive, Presents at GSA Networx Winners Circle
Broomfield, Colorado - (The Hosting News) - September 11, 2007 - Colocation, VoIP, and Internet backbone company, Level 3 Communications' Wholesale Markets Group, recently participated in a round-table discussion at the GSA/ITS Network Services Conference, in Denver, Colorado at the Adams Mark Hotel.
Jerry Hogge, the Senior Vice President of Government Markets for Level 3, appeared on behalf of the company. The conference was designed for Federal government employees focused on transitioning from FTS 2001 to Networx, a new program supporting cross-agency collaboration, transformation and government-wide technology improvement. Mr. Hogge participated in a round-table discussion in the Plaza ballroom, as part of the opening plenary session entitled, ''The Winners Circle.''
The session included representatives from the Networx contract awardees and will address how the Networx program can enable government agencies to transition into the next generation of telecommunications services in a seamless, secure and interoperable environment. Level 3 will be hosting a Networx training site at the conference. The Level 3 training site was designed to educate attendees about Level 3, the Networx contract and Level 3's comprehensive suite of network, security and managed network services. Level 3 also exhibited at the conference in Plaza One.
In addition, Level 3's Business Markets Group, was selected to be the exclusive network provider for Wall Street West, a Federal and Pennsylvania-funded initiative to provide back-up systems to New York City's financial institutions. Wall Street West, a comprehensive program designed to attract financial services firms to northeastern Pennsylvania, will include network infrastructure and services between the two regions, a workforce development program, and other financial incentives. Under the terms of the agreement between Level 3 Communications and Ben Franklin Technology Partners, fiscal agent for the Wall Street West initiative, Level 3 has been selected to construct a diverse fiber optic network from New York City to Northeastern Pennsylvania.
The network is designed to meet specific requirements for Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery applications to protect critical financial information in the event of an outage in the New York City area. Network construction is targeted to begin over the next 12 months. Governor Edward G. Rendell, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania remarked, ''The Wall Street West initiative provides a robust and unique alternative for financial institutions seeking to improve their disaster recovery model. Level 3 is a long-time and valued provider to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and we believe that Level 3's involvement with Wall Street West enhances the benefits of this proposition.''
Wall Street West is a $40 million initiative involving a variety of federal, state and private funding sources, including a $15 million investment from the Federal government through the Workforce Innovation Regional Economic Development (WIRED) program.

News: Web Hosting Founder, Former Google Executive, Acquired by LinkedIn
Mountain View, California - (The Hosting News) - September 11, 2007 - Online professional network, LinkedIn Corporation, has appointed former Google Director of Global Operations, Lloyd Taylor, as Vice President of its Technical Operations division. Colocation and Managed Services Firm, DataPoint, Initiates Executive Appointment
