(The Hosting News) – You can add Oregon onto a list of cloud regions that already include California, Virginia, Ireland, Singapore and Tokyo, all of which are currently provided for by Amazon Web Services’ cloud reach.
The company recently announced the opening of the new region via its Amazon Web Services Blog and through a company press release.
Overall, Amazon’s cloud services provide for user apps and website services.
“This one is located in the Pacific Northwest area of the United States, in the beautiful state of Oregon, and offers low-cost, low-latency access to our services from the Western portion of the US,” stated the company blog.
Continuing, Amazon Web Services said, “We’re always trying to provide you with services at the lowest possible price. Pricing for this new region is currently the same as for the US East (Northern Virginia) region.”
The new cloud area supports a variety of Amazon Web Services, including Amazon Elastic Compute, a popular service that pertains to cloud capacity configuration.
Meanwhile, other services provided for in the new area include CloudWatch, Simple Storage Service, Elastic MapReduce and more.
Along with the new zone comes lower pricing.
Commenting on the lower pricing in a press release, Amazon Web Services Senior VP Andy Jassy stated, “Launching this new lower-priced US West Region today is another example of our commitment to driving down costs for our customers – now, developers and businesses with operations or end users near the west coast of the United States can use our US West Infrastructure at an even lower cost than they could before.”
Some of Amazon Web Services’ biggest users have included social media organizer Hootsuite, social site Reddit, question site Quora, and mobile site foursquare
Aside from its general cloud regions, Amazon Web Services also has AWS GovCloud, a cloud platform that the company announced in August to provide for federal agencies.
