(The Hosting News) – The holiday season hasn’t been very kind to US-based intelligence company Stratfor.
The company was recently hacked with sensitive user data such as credit card information appearing on Pastebin, according to a report from CNN.
Right now, a message displaying “Site is currently undergoing maintenance” appears when accessing Stratfor’s website.
The attacked occurred on Christmas Eve. Notorious hacking group Anonymous appears to have taken responsibility.
Discussing the matter via its Facebook page on Sunday, Strafor stated, “On December 24th an unauthorized party disclosed personally identifiable information and related credit card data of some of our members. We have reason to believe that your personal and credit card data could have been included in the information that was illegally obtained and disclosed.”
To deal with the attack’s aftermath, Strafor says its working with “a leading identity theft protection and monitoring service.” The company is also recommending that its clients contact their financial institutions if they experience any “unauthorized activity” on their bank statements.
As a company, Stratfor works to provide global analysis to groups including government agencies and corporations.
Anonymous has long operated under a hacking movement labeled “antisec,” basing its operations on political motives.
