(The Hosting News) – OzeVision Web Hosting has recently gained access to hosting facilities at the futuristic Pionen Data Center in Bahnhof Stockholm through its hosting infrastructure provider ResellersPanel, enhancing its European presence.

OzeVision Web Hosting already has a presence in Europe through access to Bluesquare data center in Birkshire UK, making it possible for its customers to have UK dedicated server if desired. Adding to this capability is the state-of-the-art data center in Sweden which is situated in a cave deep underneath Stockholm and houses the Network Operations Center of one of Sweden’s biggest Internet Service Providers – Bahnhof. The data center is housed in what was originally a nuclear shelter and military bunker during the Cold War era. The facility still has the code name from its military days: Pionen White Mountains.The facility has 11950 sq ft (1110 sqm) of space and is located below 30 meters of solid bedrock right inside the city.

Pionen was completely redesigned in 2007-2008 to become the data center that it is today. More than 141,300 cubic feet (4,000 cubic meters) of solid rock was blasted away to make more room. The bunker was designed to be able to withstand a near hit by a hydrogen bomb. Backup power is handled by two Maybach MTU diesel engines producing 1.5 Megawatt of power. The engines were originally designed for submarines, and just for fun the people at Pionen have also installed the warning system from the original German submarine. Cooling is handled by Baltimore Aircoil fans producing a cooling effect of 1.5 Megawatt, enough for several hundred rack-mounted units. The network has full redundancy with both fiber optics and extra copper lines with three different physical ways into the mountain. Pionen is one of the best-connected places in northern Europe.
