(The Hosting News) – Google Reader’s anticipated and somewhat painful death was expected to occur Monday.
The move was initially announced by Google back in March, giving users up until now, time to find alternative services.
“There are two simple reasons for this: usage of Google Reader has declined, and as a company we’re pouring all of our energy into fewer products. We think that kind of focus will make for a better user experience,” Google had stated at the time.
The end for Google Reader arrives eight years after it made its debut in October of 2005. The content and RSS aggregator was popular but began a decline in use during recent years.
Meanwhile, users were encouraged to use Google Takeout to save their data from Reader.
