About 70% of all downstream internet traffic is made up of streaming video and audio. According to the research done by Sandvine, Netflix is the leader when it comes to streaming traffic in North America. They account for over 37% of the traffic with YouTube the closes competitor at nearly 18%.
All of the major players in video streaming increased their share of traffic from the last report done by Sandvine. Netflix may be the leader, but Amazon Video, Hulu and YouTube have all grown, as well.
As streaming video traffic grows BitTorrent traffic continues to decline. IN 2008, BitTorrent made up about 31% of the traffic, while the new report only shows BitTorrent with about 5% of the traffic.
