(The Hosting News) – Today marks the eleventh annual Safer Internet Day, a global campaign to promote safe and responsible Internet use for children and young adults, where some of the biggest companies are taking an initiative to raise awareness about privacy issues.
This years theme, “Let’s create a better internet together”, is being promoted by Microsoft, Twitter, and Google in an effort to bring attention to Internet safety, reports TheNextWeb.
Microsoft is supporting Safer Internet Day by its Do 1 Thing campaign, a new website which provides privacy tips to users.
According to Microsoft’s new website, the company is making a pledge to donate to TechSoup Global, a non profit organization that uses technology to solve global problems, every time someone shares a story on how they plan on using the Internet safely.
Meanwhile, social media giant, Twitter, is raising awareness by advertising to non-profit organizations and charities.
“We are also supporting Safer Internet Day by providing pro bono Twitter advertising to selected charities and non-profit organisations. This will help organizers of Safer Internet Day to reach new audiences by using Twitter’s promoted products,” stated the company via blog post.
Finally, Google is participating by providing tips to users on their Google Safety Center site, where tips such as clearing browsing history and limiting access to approved apps are discussed.
