(The Hosting News) – Despite the energy crisis caused by last month’s earthquake, Tokyo-based data centers have not faced many problems due to power shortages. However, this could change over the summer if the Japanese government implements rolling blackouts. Such blackouts may be performed by Japanese utility companies in order to preserve enough power for the entire nation.
Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry received a letter warning of such problems from the Japan Data Center Council following last month’s massive earthquake. Blackouts would force Data Centers to revert to generators, thus burning up much of the fuel needed to keep the centers running properly.
The nation’s government is said to be looking at ways to have high power users cut down on energy use in order to avoid possible blackouts. Around 50 data centers are located within the Tokyo area.
