News: Web Hosting Provider, Eleven2 Hosting, Expands Corporate Management Team
News
Spring, Texas - (The Hosting News) - April 10, 2008 - Eleven2 Hosting company, has expanded its corporate management team, through an appointment of a new Customer Service Director, Cory Beavers, a hosting industry veteran.

Mr. Beavers began his career at Yahoo! Web Hosting and was most recently employed by HostGator Web Hosting. Rodney Giles, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at Eleven2 noted, ''Cory's focus will be on increasing the level of support our customers experience here at Eleven2. With Cory's previous experience at Yahoo! Web Hosting and HostGator Web Hosting, he brings the experience, knowledge, and dedication needed to take our customer support to the next level.''

Cory's daily tasks include developing and implementing training programs for customer support advocates, enhancing response times on support requests, and improving the quality of responses to customers from the Eleven2 Hosting staff.

Mr. Giles added, ''Cory's leadership in these areas will help attract customers wanting top-notch customer service at every point of service, from pre-sales to ongoing support, something rarely seen in the hosting industry. When our customers are happy, our retention rates increase and customers start spreading the word about the quality of our hosting and support services.''

In addition to adding a new customer service director, Eleven2 has plans to extend their development team to keep up with the expansion of their upcoming hosting products and services.

Customers can interact with the Eleven2 Hosting team through the company's VIP platform, a user-friendly control panel for managing billing information, support requests, daily website maintenance, and email.

Recently, Eleven 2 debuted the launch of its iPhone Email Anti-Spam solution, featuring new enhancements to protect iPhone user inboxes and screen out 99.9% of spam emails. The custom-built spam protection combines anti-spam hardware appliances and in-house designed software to filter spam for iPhone email users, improving their user experience and lightening the load on Eleven2 servers. With total sales recently reaching one million, the number of users relying on the iPhone as their primary device for accessing mobile email continues to grow. Spam has the potential to be a major issue in clogging iPhone email inboxes.

Eleven2 has enabled a anti-spam scan engine which uses a layered approach to increase ''kill'' rates while at the same time keeping false positives to an absolute minimum. Spam emails are identified through spam signature files and updated rules which are designed around actual identified spam, doing away with guessing and leading to extremely low false positives. Other enhancements include IMAP configurations which were heavily tweaked, redundant inbound mail servers and automated outbound IP address switching to prevent blocked sending of emails.
Eleven2 is looking to roll out additional future enhancements focused on iPhone users in the near future.

Eleven2 Hosting was formed back in early 2004 between two frustrated web developers who simply couldn't find good hosting options on the Internet. With currently more than 60,000 web sites and years of experience, Eleven2 has become a world-class hosting provider that is here to stay. Eleven2 built and maintains its own state-of-the-art data-center facility and has continuously re-invented itself through the development of their own in-house automated support system.

News: Data Center Security Study Released, by Neverfail
News
Austin, Texas - (The Hosting News) - April 10, 2008 - According to a new study released by Osterman Research and sponsored by security solutions company, Neverfail, over 50 percent of the participants report they are consolidating all email servers into a single data center in one geographic location.

The report indicates that, even amidst today's enlightened business environments, many companies are still leaving their data centers open to severe risk. Yet less than 1 percent says they are protecting these systems with redundant servers in case of disaster -- leaving most at risk of losing data and severely compromising their business.

Encouragingly, the report also found that two-thirds of these companies consider disaster recovery and business continuity an important or critical driver for the adoption of virtualization technology, second only to reducing hardware costs. Regardless of the data center environment, the ubiquity of email use to communicate and exchange business-critical content makes it one of the most important business applications -- one that simply can not go down.

Other interesting facts from the survey and other recent Osterman Research surveys:
-- Nearly three out of five organizations consider enabling continuous operations as an important or critical driver for adopting virtualization. -- However, most decision makers do not understand virtualization well enough to make sound decisions about its adoption. -- Messaging system reliability/uptime is a serious problem for one in five organizations, impacting millions of users in the workplace. Despite this, 3 out of 4 respondents did not see messaging as an important part of their virtualization project. These companies, therefore, must look to alternative technologies to provide business continuity and disaster recovery.

Michael Osterman, President of Osterman Research noted, ''We were quite surprised to find so many businesses relying on 'luck' and still thinking about next steps when considering business continuity for their most important applications. It was no surprise that more than half of respondents are planning to put together a virtual environment to address the problem. But what was interesting was the lack of understanding of virtualization amongst the decision makers. It is clear that where a company is building out their business continuity plans there is a need for better integration and understanding of virtualization to deliver continuous availability to prevent any type of business interruption.''

Andrew Barnes, Senior Vice President of corporate development at Neverfail remarked, ''Virtualization is experiencing rapid market growth because of its ability to improve efficiency in data centers through cost savings and resource management. It is good to see that virtualization vendors are now waking companies up to the urgent need for business continuity and disaster recovery. Clearly though there is some way to go for companies to understand how virtualization can be best implemented to protect critical parts of the business.''

With global experience in delivering continuous availability solutions for mission critical applications, Neverfail has experience across physical and virtual infrastructures. As well as protecting critical applications such as email and mobility platforms, Neverfail protects VMware VirtualCenter which sits at the heart of the market leading virtualization platform.

VMware VirtualCenter provides centralized monitoring, remote management, and rapid provisioning capabilities, and serves as the control point for valuable services such as VMware VMotion, Site Recovery Manager and VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS). This functionality yields significant benefits including increased efficiency and flexibility -- provided that VMware VirtualCenter Server can be accessed by an IT administrator. Neverfail for VMware VirtualCenter ensures that IT administrators will not lose access to the features provided by VMware VirtualCenter despite IT interruptions ranging from component failure to external interruptions.

Mr. Barnes added, ''Neverfail customers today blend physical and virtual environments to minimize the time to protect their most critical applications as part of their business continuity and recovery plans. Using virtualization technology in conjunction with Neverfail provides the maximum level of application availability and accelerates the value of virtualization to deliver continuous availability.''

News: Hosting Utility Solutions, Layered Technologies, 3Tera, Selected for Grid-Server
News
Plano, Texas - (The Hosting News) - April 9, 2008 - On demand IT infrastructure provider, Layered Technologies, and grid computing technology and utility computing services for web applications, 3Tera, Inc., will support the Woopra real-time web analytics platform.

The companies will provide 100 grid-based servers - in order to assist Woopra as it experiences a huge market demand prior to official launch.

Elie Khoury, CIO of Woopra noted, ''We are extremely pleased that Layered Technologies has stepped up to pledge the infrastructure necessary for us to meet the growing demand for Woopra. We are also grateful for all of the public feedback and support we have been given in the past 48 hours. We vow to work as quickly as possible to make Woopra available to as many as 100,000 web sites within the next few weeks.''

Woopra provides real-time stats, delivered via a client-server application, and includes unique features such as the ability to identify and chat real time with visitors to the monitored site. The beta version of Woopra was quietly unveiled to a select audience of 200 at WordCamp Dallas, but news rapidly spread to over 2 million as buzz began to grow.

Todd Abrams, COO and President of Layered Technologies commented, ''We are excited about the launch of Woopra and the fact that we will be hosting it on The Grid. With such high demand, we are working closely with Woopra to ensure that all of Layered Technologies' clients can gain access to the application as quickly as possible.''

With more than 12,000 servers and nearly a decade of experience, Layered Technologies has developed an expertise in data center operations. Using 3Tera's award-winning AppLogic OS, Layered Technologies is able to provide grid computing solutions by harnessing the power of their data centers and making it available on-demand - processing power, bandwidth, and storage capacity. 3Tera's AppLogic Grid OS allows a customer to package their entire application into a single self-contained logical entity. The packaged system can be scaled from a fraction of a CPU to hundreds of machines without any code modification.

Peter Nickolov, President and CTO of 3Tera remarked, ''The instant growth of Woopra is a perfect example of how grid solutions provide new capabilities for growth. Scaling an online application, such as Woopra, can be enormously challenging. Being able to quickly deploy and operate on a highly available and scalable utility computing platform offers a unique business solution. Partnering with Layered Technologies has allowed us to deliver true utility computing solutions and help hundreds of companies scale their application with the growing demand.''

3Tera's AppLogic grid operating system is the first commercial platform designed specifically to enable true utility computing. The system converts commodity servers into scalable grids on which users can visually deploy, operate and scale transactional web applications without any modification of code. With the ability to run on any grid anywhere in the world, the disposable infrastructure technology found in the heart of the AppLogic system packages applications with the definition of the infrastructure required to run them into self-contained and portable entities. As a result, applications become completely separated from the hardware infrastructure traditionally needed to run them, allowing users to remotely manage their applications through a Web browser and provision resources as needed.

Based in Frisco Texas, Layered Technologies, Inc. is one of the five largest global providers of on-demand hosting and utility computing solutions, providing dedicated, partially managed server hosting solutions primarily for the small and medium-sized enterprise SME market. They provide customers with the highest quality technology, infrastructure and support services that enable them to operate servers at secure Tier III/IV data centers, while saving them the capital and operating costs typically associated with purchasing and maintaining their own servers at co-location facilities. Layered Technologies servers and associated network facilities are used by customers to host a variety of Internet-enabled applications, including content and e-commerce Web sites, software as a service (''SaaS'') offerings, online multiplayer games, shared Web site hosting services, and streaming multimedia content distribution and delivery, among other applications.

News: Google Hosting Application Tool Launches
News
Mountain View, California - (The Hosting News) - April 9, 2008 - Search engine, Google, has previewed its new App Engine, an application-hosting tool that developers can use to build scalable web apps on top of Google's infrastructure.

The goal is to make it easier for web developers to build and scale applications, instead of focusing on system administration and maintenance.

Google App Engine is designed so that developers may:
  • Write code once and deploy. Provisioning and configuring multiple machines for web serving and data storage can be expensive and time consuming. Google App Engine makes it easier to deploy web applications by dynamically providing computing resources as they are needed. Developers write the code, and Google App Engine takes care of the rest.
  • Absorb spikes in traffic. When a web app surges in popularity, the sudden increase in traffic can be overwhelming for applications of all sizes, from startups to large companies that find themselves re-architecting their databases and entire systems several times a year. With automatic replication and load balancing, Google App Engine makes it easier to scale from one user to one million by taking advantage of Bigtable and other components of Google's scalable infrastructure.
  • Easily integrate with other Google services. It's unnecessary and inefficient for developers to write components like authentication and e-mail from scratch for each new application. Developers using Google App Engine can make use of built-in components and Google's broader library of APIs that provide plug-and-play functionality for simple but important features.
Pete Koomen, a product manager at Google explained, ''Google has spent years developing infrastructure for scalable web applications. We've brought Gmail and Google search to hundreds of millions of people worldwide, and we've built out a powerful network of datacenters to support those applications. Today we're taking the first step in making this infrastructure available to all developers.''

The preview release of Google App Engine is limited to the first 10,000 developers that sign up, all of whom will be restricted to the free quota of 500MB of storage and enough CPU and network bandwidth to sustain around 5 million page views per month for a typical app. The preview phase is intended to gather feedback from developers. Eventually, developers will be able to purchase additional storage and bandwidth. Engineers from Google will also be on hand at http://code.google.com/events/io/ (Google I/O) in May to talk about building on Google App Engine.

With the largest index of websites available on the World Wide Web and the industry's most advanced search technology, Google Inc. delivers the fastest and easiest way to find relevant information on the Internet. Google's technological innovations have earned the company numerous industry awards and citations, including two Webby Awards; two WIRED magazine Readers Raves Awards; Best Internet Innovation and Technical Excellence Award from PC Magazine; Best Search Engine on the Internet from Yahoo! Internet Life; Top Ten Best Cybertech from TIME magazine; and Editor's Pick from CNET. A growing number of companies worldwide, including Yahoo! and its international properties, Sony Corporation and its global affiliates, AOL/Netscape, and Cisco Systems, rely on Google to power search on their websites. A privately held company based in Mountain View, Calif., Google's investors include Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers and Sequoia Capital.
