News: Network Services Agenda Featured at Globalcomm 2006
Choosing a Web Host

Research Triangle Park, North Carolina - (The Hosting News) - June 5, 2006 - Developer of converged packet access platforms, Overture Networks, will participate at Globalcomm 2006, including chairing a panel on network convergence at the IEC Communications Forum, while exhibiting a new Quality of Service solution and sponsoring various activities throughout the event.

Globalcomm 2006, the communications marketplace and summit, will be held at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois through June 8th, 2006. Additional details about Overture Networks converged network services agenda follow:

IEC Communications Forum Panel Chip Redden, vice president of marketing and product management for Overture Networks, will chair a panel at Globalcomm titled, ''Profiting from Tomorrow's Network Convergence Today.'' The panel discussion will examine the migration by service providers to all packet-based networks in an effort to deliver ubiquitous connectivity to customers. The session will examine the best methods for transitioning to a converged network including the financial benefits of embracing this model for multiservice delivery today and in the future. The session will include representatives from Tellabs, ADC, Vertical Systems Group as well as a senior analyst from Heavy Reading. It will take place on June 5 at 2:15-3:30 p.m. CT.

Overture Networks will unveil and showcase a new software feature called L2+ Classification for its ISG product family at Globalcomm. L2+ Classification promises to unlock the true value of multi-services and combine this value with the operational expenditure savings of Ethernet access. Using a rules-based interface, providers can map ToS/DSCP and VLANs into priorities recognized by Ethernet transport networks, while also manipulating the VLAN tags used to segregate traffic in such networks. Hands- on demonstrations of this innovative software feature along with the entire ISG product suite will be available in the company's booth #17048 on the trade show floor.

Overture Networks will also be participating in various sponsorship activities, to increase awareness for itself, its partners and its products through pre-show mailings and customer outreach programs on the show floor.

Headquartered in North Carolina's high-tech center, Research Triangle Park, Overture Networks has assembled a veteran team with extensive experience delivering edge solutions to carriers and enterprises - experience rooted in IP, Ethernet, and TDM technologies and dedicated to the specific problems metro service providers face in a hybrid packet/circuit world. The company's ISG products are converged packet access platforms that, according to the company, can deliver multiple managed services over any network infrastructure to any customer location at the customer edge.

How to Make Hosting Sexy!
Choosing a Web Host Anonymous writes "From a historical perspective, the hosting industry is an infant of approx. 10-15 years of age. The industry arose from the widespread of the Internet, the graphical browsers, and a bunch of enthuisiastic entrepreneurs with great visions. These entrepreneurs were hardworking innovative crazy nerds with a mindset that set off for the sky. Where are they now? Are they white collar workers employed by Venture Capital, or have they just gone old? I don't know, but I sure miss them, as the hosting industry has turned out to be just as slow and sexy as a turtle.

Let me explain. Basically, the hosting industry offers exactly the same services today as they did a decade ago. A hardware box, rackspace, power, and connectivity. Over time services like customer support, and control panels has improved, but we have not seen any true progress of pioneer work whatsoever in this century.

Think about this; This exiting, roaring, incredible, heart-beating industry who litterally has changed the world, is now fast asleep. Competition is boring and is powered by two main factors. Enduser prices, and the size of advertising budgets. No wonder that most customers are totally illoyal towards their provider, if the shop across the street offers slightly lower prices. Providers offer identical services, and the industry has emerged into the toilet paper selling business.

What the industry needs is to re-think the concept to make it appealing to customers of today. Yes, customers of today! You did not notice that the customer profiles has changed significantly? Well, they have. And they want something sexy from you in return for their loyalty!

Let's face it. Most hosting customers are males. What makes a man feel good, and on top of the situation? The answer is simple. Control. The utmost control he can get. Wars is all about control! So is marriage! So, you'd better provide your customer with CONTROL, and you will make him feel like a king!

Imagine selling services, where your customer is forced to ask you for help all the time. “Please reboot my server asap”, “I locked myself out of my firewall, can you help me?”, “ Help me please, I crashed my system, and management is all over me”.
Does that make him feel in control? No. That makes him feel vulnerable!

Here we go. The scenario is set. Your customer, with stripes on his shoulders, is forced into a situation of no-control. He is stuck with your response time, and in the meantime he is haunted by his bosses, and loosing his face. He will put the blame on you, and management will tell him to come up with an alternate provider. Consequently this is what the industry refers to as the 'mobility in the market'! Why don't you wake up? It is common knowledge, that no intruder can brake up a happy marriage. And here we have a whole industry constantly asking its customers to brake up their business marriage with you!

Take away that feeling of vulnerability from your customer, and give him control, and lots of it. This is the key to making your hosting services extremely sexy to your customers! He will reward you generously by not taking his business elsewhere.

There is something that I don't understand, and I need to ask this 1 million $ question: Why is it that even major players with lots of capital are not investing money in providing valued added control related features or tools, enabling customers to do anything themselves remotely, and directly from their keyboard, apart from changing faulty hardware? Why is it that they don't see, that customers want control? Did they decide, that this is out of reach? Or did they just go lazy?

Well, I will share my knowledge with you. It is not out of reach, and it is not difficult to implement no matter what you are told. These software tools exist. All you have to do is to find them out there. End of story.

Now you also know why I truly miss the old days of yesterday with crazy entrepereurship, high-flying visions turned into golden services, a tight focus on customer needs, and the way of thinking in oppertunities, not in limitations.

News: Invitation-Only Gmail Style Free Web Hosting Service Launches
Choosing a Web Host Have you moved.in yet? That's a question many webmasters will ask others as Moved.in opens it's doors.

"Google has started with GMail and it seems they did it right, as launching an invitation based services is a big help if it comes to abuse protection. Since our service is based on invitations, only existing members can invite new members. This way, existing members are responsible if anything goes wrong.", said Mr. Bosch - Accounting Manager.

What exactly is Moved.in? Moved in is a brand new community-like service, where webmasters can signup for ( ad )-free CPanel hosting. Features include PHP, mySQL and of course web space.

"Don't call it 'yet another free host' as it is really a totally different story. Most free hosting providers put ads on a user's website to make some bucks. Moved.in is different - there are no ads at all. Our business plan is having sponsors supporting our service by placing their 'two-liner' in our newsletters. Our costs are covered and our members enjoy totally ad-free hosting - Sounds fair doesn't it?", Mr. Bosch added.

The idea itself sounds promising ( even if not new ), as members of the Moved.in service will be very careful while selecting new members, as their own account would be in risk if anything goes wrong.

Editors Note: ( ex. Member 1 invites an abusive member 2 and get's suspended as member one is responsible for member 2's account )

News: Domain Registrar Network Solutions Introduces Country-Specific Domains
Choosing a Web Host Network Solutions, the first and world's leading registrar of domain names and Web-related services, today announced the launch of its Country-code Top-Level Domains (ccTLDs) service. Customers who wish to differentiate local market content and create a targeted global Web presence can choose from six new ccTLDs offered from Network Solutions (www.networksolutions.com), including extensions for the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Austria, New Zealand and Mexico.

For a limited time, customers can register United Kingdom extensions (.co.uk, org.uk, .me.uk) for only $6.99 a year, and the Germany extension (.de) for only $11.99 a year -- a competitive pricing structure that sets Network Solutions' ccTLD service apart from other offerings in the sector. All the ccTLDs are offered through Network Solutions and may be registered by anyone, from any country.

"The use of the Internet continues to rise outside of the United States and we expect it to climb rapidly in Europe, Asia and Latin America over the next few years(1)," said Network Solutions Chairman and CEO Champ Mitchell. "With a ccTLD extension, our customers can expand their customer base by offering specific in-language content and location information on their Web sites."

Customers can register ccTLDs to prevent unauthorized use of trademarks, brands and licensed names. In addition, ccTLDs complement existing .com and .net domain names, by broadening a customer's marketing to include an international audience. The ccTLDs are as easy to use as a .com domain name. These domain extensions allow customers to create an in-language Web site and display different site content for various cultures around the world and are widely recognized in the countries they represent.

The ccTLDs use many of the same features as the widespread .com and .net domain extensions, including Network Solutions' easy-to-use account management tools, advanced DNS service and auto renew.
