(The Hosting News) – On Friday, Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL) took to the U.S. House floor and cited Apple’s iPad as likely causing thousands of job losses. In particular, Jackson took aim at Apple for outsourcing iPad production to China.
In the speech, Jackson stated, “Now Borders is closing stores because why do you need to go to Borders anymore? Why do you need to go to Barnes & Noble? Just download your book, download your newspaper, download your magazine.”
In recent years, companies including Borders have suffered closures and losses due in part to the shift towards customers receiving reading material through electronic devices such as Apple’s iPad and Amazon’s Kindle.
Some analysts have been quick to point out that companies suffering job losses had failed to adapt to the changing market in a sufficient amount of time. Critics of Jackson’s statements also noted that the iPad has helped create other jobs.
