EMC Information CEO Pat Gelsinger will assume the top post at the company from current VMware Executive Paul Maritz who had been with the tech provider since 2008.
Aside from his stint at EMC Information, Gelsinger draws from career experience during his tenure as Senior VP and Co-General Manager at Intel’s Digital Enterprise Group.
Gelsinger elaborated on his vision for VMware’s future when discussing his upcoming role. “The next generation of software defined-datacenters will be built by combining software with standardized hardware building blocks. VMware is uniquely positioned to be the leader in this endeavor and deliver a whole new level of value to customers and its existing important ecosystem partners,” commented the future VMware CEO in a press release.
“For more than ten years I have interacted with the team at VMware and have developed a deep appreciation for the people and technology of this remarkable company. I am really excited about the mission and becoming part of the team,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Gelsinger and current CEO Paul Martiz were expected to take part in a financial analyst conference call yesterday evening.
While Maritz may be leaving VMware’s CEO gig, his future in the company will remain active as he will stay on the company’s board of directors. He’ll also become a technology strategist at EMC, the company’s that operates VMware as a subsidiary.
VMWare is set to hold its VMworld 2012 conference next month in San Francisco, California. The company’s solutions pertain to cloud infrastructure, virtualization, server consolidation, security and more. The leadership shakeup follows another high-profile CEO move by online search giant Yahoo who announced Google veteran Marissa Mayer as its top executive on Monday.
